My parents, who are 81 & 82 years old, have recently sold their old house, and are planning on trading in my dad’s ‘99 Ram pick-up and my mom’s ‘07 Impala for one car. They are not extravagant people, so I’m leaning towards a slightly used care for them, although a reasonably priced used vehicle wouldn’t be out of the question. Most likely, it will be a small SUV (yeah, I know), because they are easier to get into and out of for both of them. For a couple in their 80's, they can both get around fairly well, with no disabilities between them. I leaning towards either a late model Escape (maybe the prior generation), or a Honda CR-V. Any thoughts?
The general for your time.

I don’t think the General Mayhem is the right car for your folks. Maybe Stubby Bob...

Gonna have to disagree, they’re older, they fit the Corvette stigma

I personally have never managed to find a comfortable position in the front of a 2nd-gen Escape. Maybe it’s just me, (I’m 6'2, 220lbs) but it’s not something I can imagine an 80-year-old in. Lower back stiffness every time I get out from the seat bolstering pushing my shoulders forward and/or me slouching down to avoid it. I don’t really have anything else to add, except that I would be looking at something a little more luxurious if I was shopping for my grandparents (my parents aren’t quite that old yet).

Venza. Its a Camry, but higher ride/seat height, easier ingress and egress. Available AWD with the V6, or a more economical 4 in FWD. I work on one for a couple your parents age, and they were both commenting how great a car it is for them as they’ve lost mobility as they’ve aged. Not sure if the price is in range, but one to consider.

The Scion XB seems to be really good with seniors getting in and out of.

I know people think its bit of a stretch but my ex’s grand parents had a new Honda Fit and they loved it. Good ride height, decent space, great MPG, and very easy to maneuver due to size. Also can get a loaded one for about what a low grade CR-V would start at. The other thing to look at is the HR-V, one of the best choices for the CUVs along with the CX5 or CX3
